MTBPR Log:  Star Date ... I meant... Second day at Vieques!

We should had departed at 8:00 a.m..  But I think everybody wanted to ride, but nobody wanted to get up (a big dilemma).  Here we are at Doña Lucy's arguing about the cyclist (Franquie) that slept in Chinas Hammock.  China is her spoiled but really lovely Doberman!

In the photo from right to left Doña Lucy, Negrón family from Cabo Rojo, China (the only K9 in the photo) and Gilberto!

We departed close to 9:00 a.m. by road 200.  This road goes through the nort coast.  We passed several interersting sites, for example Mosquito Pier, the Airport, Vieques Ceiba, Ecumenical Chappel, and at the end the entrance to the Kianí Lagoon Reserve.  Was raining all night, so a lot of mud awaited us and some of it smelled like roses, but rotten roses!

First stop of the day, a not too serious problem.  A case of ghost shifting, nothing that Sal couldn't handle!  While Jim is getting ready... but not to help, but to take a photo!

I included this photo on purpose, to make you suffer!   This was our reward for all that many miles of paved road.  This area is close to Punta Boca Quebrada in Green Beach.  In the horizon to your left... Fajardo, Puerto Rico.

When we departed from Punta Arenas one of the Ladies of our group fell in one of the metal bridges in the reserve.  Thanks God was not a broken arm.  This was the second seriuos accident of the trip.

We left the Reserve and entered the road of the Bunkers; a route that was not paved (lots of thorns)!  In the photo... Donelys!

When we returned from the Bunkers and had a lot of troubles with the thorns, we stop by the famous Vieques Ceiba tree.  Amazingly a horse that was close by moved in to be included in the photo.  We thought he was used to this!

During the first day Gilberto confronted a lot of troubles with the bikes tubes.  Today we discovered that the problem was the tire, it was breaking the tubes and getting off the rim.  The photo shows Sal art piece, the always-famous Duct Tape.  But at the end this didn't worked out.  By now were 11:00 am we were late for the return trip in the Ferry.  I continued by bike to our base in Monte Grande.  I called my wife to pick me up in our rented Jeep because the rear tire was deflating too fast.  I got out out 7 thorns from the front and 14+ from the rear tire.
The End ... For Now...!
